TRESTLES

Twin lines gather,
stone beneath remembers every
swell that finds its way.

Along the San Clemente coastline, Lower Trestles is built by what lies beneath the surface. Rounded cobblestones scattered across the seafloor shape incoming swell into clean, symmetrical peaks that have made the break a benchmark for performance surfing for generations. It is a place where consistency is earned through geology rather than chance.

Trestles is not defined by a single perfect wave. It is defined by repetition. Swell after swell arrives, interacts with the cobblestone bathymetry below, and unfolds into the balanced lefts and rights that have become instantly recognizable to surfers around the world. The wave rarely demands attention through sheer size. Instead, it rewards precision, rhythm, and flow.

This marker captures that relationship.

The breaking peak is rendered in layered relief, while the recessed field beneath carries a cobblestone texture inspired by the submerged stones that shape the wave itself. The breaking foam is filled with resin and microballoons, a nod to the board builders of San Clemente's Surf Ghetto and the material used to shape and repair boards just up the coast. The lettering is carved with the weight and permanence of the concrete bridge pillars overlooking the break, grounding the design in the place itself. Finished with warm copper tones inspired by the late afternoon light over Lower Trestles, subtle blues and purples emerge across the surface as a quiet nod to the weathered stickers and graffiti that have long marked the trail to the beach.

Each marker is hand-finished and individually detailed to highlight the contrast between polished copper, engraved texture, and warm patina. The finish is intentionally restrained—designed to feel more like something carried for years than something displayed. Over time, the copper continues to evolve, recording rounds played, pockets carried, and seasons spent outside.

The reverse features the Swell Marks motto—Know the break. Mark your spot.—alongside swell direction marks inspired by the southwest swells that bring Lower Trestles to life. A quiet reminder that remarkable waves begin long before they reach the shore.

Living Copper Finish

The front of each Trestles marker is sealed to preserve its warm, late-afternoon copper finish. The reverse is left unsealed, allowing the heat-colored patina to naturally evolve through handling and time. Like the trail to Trestles itself, every marker's journey is uniqu
