Good Bones

Salt in the air,

Some things just have good bones.

Good Bones takes one of surfing’s simplest gestures and strips it down to its structure. Half hand, half skeleton, the familiar shaka is caught somewhere between the surface and what lies beneath.

The design is engraved deep into brass, then filled with polyester surfboard resin—the same material used for a traditional hot coat. Once cured, the surface is worked back by hand, bringing the brass through while leaving the resin locked into the engraving and giving the split shaka its depth and definition.

Flip it over and the anatomy keeps moving. A chain of vertebrae bends into the shape of a breaking wave, carrying the idea from hand to water. Know the Break. Mark Your Spot. follows the perimeter.

Each is poured with polyester surfboard resin, so slight variations in color and character are part of the finish.
