Some projects begin with a surf break. Others begin with a story.
1893 is a tribute to the United States Navy Chief Petty Officer community and the traditions that have shaped generations of Chiefs. Named for the year the Chief's Mess was established, the repeating 1893 background reveals itself only upon closer inspection—a quiet nod to the history behind the anchor.
Each marker is individually laser engraved, hand finished, and assembled in my Coronado, California workshop. The raised Chief anchor stands proudly above a deep engraved field, while a clear resin fill adds depth without distracting from the brass. The reverse is intentionally understated, featuring a hand-applied patina finish with Swell Marks and Ask the Chief framing a modern graphic goat—a subtle nod to the traditions of the Chief's Mess..
Whether carried on the course, presented as a retirement gift, or given to commemorate selection to the Chief's Mess, 1893 is built to be used—not tucked away in a display case.
